Inframammary Incision

Inframammary incision is a surgical procedure used to augment the breast. The incision is hidden within the breast crease. It can easily be hidden under an average bikini top. It can be used with both pre-filled and large silicone breast implants.

Incision technique

Inframammary incision is one of the most common breast augmentation techniques. This technique involves creating an inframammary incision and inserting the breast implant. This type of breast augmentation is very safe. It is safe to perform on women with large breast implant sizes. This procedure is safe for breastfeeding.

One of the key advantages of the inframammary incision technique is its ability to reduce overall surgical time. The surgeon performs this procedure using a stab-shaped incision, about 3 mm long, to insert a small infiltration cannula. Next, 150 mL of tumescent solution is injected through the incision to elevate the pocket and promote hemostasis.

Criteria for inclusion

Inframammary fold is a crucial landmark in breast surgical. It is used to define ptosis and the inferior border of breast on the chest wall. To avoid implant migration, the fold provides inferior support for subpectoral screws. The fold is also vital for aesthetic and reconstructive procedures.

Participation in this study is only possible for women who are at least 14 years old. Patients under 18 must be accompanied by a legal representative who signs the FITC. Also, women who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding will not be eligible. Participation in the study is voluntary. There are no financial incentives.

Risques

Inframammary surgical procedures can pose risks. A double-bubble deformity can occur when the inframammary fold is lower than the breast tissue. This type of deformity may lead to several complications, including breast-cancer.

Inframammary incisions don't work as well as those made at the circumareolar or periareolar crease. Inframammary cuts can be dangerous because the sensory nerves located at the lower pole are susceptible to being stretched or cut. Inframammary and periareolar incisions may result in a higher incidence of nipple necrosis. They are also less aesthetic.

Disadvantages

Inframammary is the most commonly used type of incision in plastic surgeons. It is easy to use and visible. It is also able to directly access submuscular or subpectoral planes. This type of incision can also be less invasive and poses fewer risks such as infection and the formation of hematomas. Inframammary incisions are ideal for creating placement symmetry without causing scarring.

However, this breast enhancement technique has some limitations. This method isn't as precise as other types of surgery and the implants may be placed too high or unevenly on the chest. Also, concealing the scar will be more difficult than you may think.

Modified approach

The inframammary folding is an incision which extends from the chest wall down to the underlying tissue. Multiple layers of absorbable sutures are used to close the inframammary folded. They extend to the medial as well as lateral edges of your breast. The skin disk is then moved towards the center of breast, bringing the disc to the original nipple–areolar location. To close the wound, smaller gauge sutures can be used.

The incision will be made along the inframammary (which is far from the flap’s edge). In certain instances, special devices may be used to harvest flap fabric, such as an instrument with endoscopic capabilities or a retractors fitted with a lighting system.
